Thinning scissors are designed to remove excess volume and weight in thick or curly styles. Each pair has one blade with a set of teeth, designed with a series of sharp grooves and edges to help you remove excess layers. The other blade is designed much more traditionally for general trimming.

Typically there are three kinds of scissors used by barbers in salons. The first usually has a maximum of 10 to 16 teeth, and this is the primary design used to trim thick hair.
